The Woodturners

This is a personal project that I have started in 2009 about old jobs surviving nowadays.
Stefano Roncalli (He told me that he is in relation with italian pope Roncalli - Papa Giovanni XXIII that was his cousin) 85 years old and his son Giancarlo are the latest wood turners in Milan.

There is a "legend" (but I can confirm that) that they can reproduce all type of rounded pieces of wood with their eyes only, without projects or drawings...only seeing the original!
Then, working with the "sgorbia", a particular chisel, on the rotating piece of wood, they recreate-create every model.

For years he was the turner of the production and internal designer Renzo Mongiardino.

There is only one thing that Stefano criticize, frenetic times of nowadays and hurry in having the works done.

Interested in photography and motion film I attended a course at National School of Cinema in Rome with cinematographer Giuseppe Rotunno but, after that I reversed all my interest in still photography.

With digital era coming I have started to produce digital images for majority of commercials but, at the same time I continue to keep alive my film passion and technique for my personal work.

Interested in people and social photography at -360 degrees- !
