URBAN VIEWS

I'm fascinated by the life in metropolitan areas, a space shared by millions of people.
My photography is a personal research, questioning how it might be possible to efficiently and happily live together in a confined space for a large number of people. With my photography I envision a preview of our life in the future.
I'm most attracted and interested in density. My aspiration is to show at least 1000 people or their traces in every picture. Be it the illuminated windows of appartments, the light streaks of vehicles or clothes hung out of windows for drying. Even without seeing people, their footprints are visible everywhere in the urban environment, an organism that is alive and breathing.
The photographs shall be printed in a 2m x3m scale, enabeling the viewer to find another story in every square centimeter. The images should provoke interest on first sight through colour, shape and proportions. But even examined closer and more intensely, one should never be bored. By: Thomas Birke
