I came to photography thanks to a compact digital camera in 2006 while visiting Japan. I got so hooked that I decided to study in a photography school in Tokyo, leaving behind a near 20 year-long career as a recording engineer.

While learning analog darkroom printing, the idea for this series came to me. This is an attempt to explore the very unique (to my French eyes at least) connection of the plants and the city of Tokyo. At times, the Herbarium Japonicum pretends to walk in the path of 19th century botanists, but contemporary elements pop-in to give a twist of anachronism and pseudo-science...

Most of the photos where taken with a Minolta XD 35mm camera with 28mm and 50mm lens on Kodak TMax 400.
Printed on 9.5x12 inches Fomatone MG classic paper and sepia toned.

I currently live in Tokyo, Japan.
