The Melancholy of Objects is a series of portraits of
objects I've found in Southwark, south-east London. This
is my neighbourhood. I've lived here for years and walk
these streets almost every day. The streets are full of the
stuff of life - discarded, lost and forgotten. Some of the
objects talk to me. These photographs are my reply.

I was an abstract painter for fifteen years and switched to
photography in 2005. All these photographs were taken with a
1960 Rolleiflex T, which has been the only camera I use
since I bought it last year.

I started with photography in the early nineties.
The reason is very simple I did not want to leave a beautiful landscape behind only as a memory. I took a picture of it.
Until a few years ago I only took photographs on my travels, now that evolved in a lot more.
Recently I discovered "the calm world" and I capture it in monochrome.
For me this is a powerful way to express myself.

R.Ohtsu is currently living in Tokio Japan

Living in a city, the diversity of the urban world attracts me.
Street photography imposes itself as an evidence. My meetings become my images.
I never know in advance where I will take a shot or who I will photography.
My shots include a part of random as well as an instinctive selection of the persons.
Ackward, stange or moving, the personnality of these men and women, through my vision, highlights the emotiontransmitted by the shot.

Born in Lyon (France) in 1970, I have been living in Montpellier (France)
for the last ten years. Most of my photos are taken in the city of Montpellier,
located in the South of France.
I use several cameras (Leica, Yashica, Rollei, Lomo, Holga) but I decided to work with Rolleiflex for the portraits. Its square format, depth of field and quality are perfectly suited for portraits.
